Basin Beach is situated just around the corner of Mona Vale Beach, on the same strip of sand. It is the calmer than mona vale, and waves are usually flat – except for a small surf break right on the rocks at Mona Vale rock pool. It’s a great spot for smaller children at the south end, and perfect for fishing and scuba diving at the north end.
While this beach is not patrolled, it’s usually quite safe to swim. Those wanting to swim in the north end of Basin Beach should be confident, strong swimmers as there can be rips even when it’s flat. If the surf is pumping, there is a reef break right out the back. This should only be attempted by very advanced surfers as it is quite dangerous.
If you’re up for a nice walk, head up the steps at the north end, and these will take you up to Mona Vale Headland! It’s stunning any time of the day, but sunrises & sunsets are particularly beautiful.
