Knots and Threads: A New Perspective

“And if we just took a look at the tapestry from the Lord’s perspective, we would see that, in fact, all along, our master creator has been faithfully working on our behalf” Have you ever seen a tapestry? They’re beautiful, thickly woven wall hangings with gorgeous patterns and pictures. I often see them on my Pinterest feed and love to just stare and gaze at how intricately woven they are. But what we don’t often see is the back end of the tapestry.

The Lord has been using the image of a tapestry to teach me a lot about the way He works; about perspective. You see, when you’re standing on the back side, all you can see is tangled knots and threads. The forming and fabrication of the picture is exposed. Threads are left dangling…it’s not a very pretty sight. You can’t even really tell which threads connect up where. A picture is being skilfully and intricately woven on the other side, but all you can see around the back is one big mess!

And so often I feel like this in life! The Lord tells me he is working on something, working in my life, working in a circumstance, and all I see is one big mess. I see all the tangled knots and I complain, “God why are you not working?!” Because I can’t SEE what he is doing, I assume He isn’t working. It doesn’t make sense on my end; in fact, it is beginning to look far more complicated. But the thing is, God IS working. The knots and threads that we see at the back of the tapestry represent the intricately beautiful picture that the Lord is weaving on the other side. Even though we don’t see it or feel it, He is working.

“My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working.” JOHN 5:17
“So we are convinced that every detail of our lives is continually woven together to fit into God’s perfect plan of bringing good into our lives, for we are his lovers who have been called to fulfill his designed purpose.”
Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭TPT‬‬

And if we just took a look at the tapestry from the Lord’s perspective, we would see that, in fact, all along, our master creator has been faithfully working on our behalf. A tapestry was designed to be viewed from the front end – but the back end gives evidence for the work of the weaver. If His creation is anything to go by, we can trust that what He creates on that tapestry is going to be far more beautiful, far more thought-out and far better than we could’ve imagined.

“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” ROMANS 8:28

Can’t see what God is doing? Just look on the other side of the tapestry xx

“Being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” PHILIPPIANS 1:6
