“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” // Romans 8:28
I remember when I was younger, I used to love playing board games with my siblings. In particular, I was always eager to play monopoly with my older brothers. The games always started off well, you go past GO, collect $200 and start buying properties. The start was great and I loved Monopoly. But my brothers were really skilled at the game (either that or they cheated), and it wasn’t long before I would find myself bankrupt and extremely upset, hating Monopoly!
You know, it’s so easy to let our circumstances dictate and define how good God is. We go through a hard situation or a tough season and we question the goodness of God – “how could a good and loving God let me go through this?” Now I’m not underestimating your circumstances – what you’re going through is valid. But your circumstance doesn’t dictate how good God is, because God is good. All the time. He doesn’t emanate anything but goodness. Yes, your circumstance might be bad but God didn’t make that circumstance happen. Maybe you think what is happening to you is because God is angry with you or its because of karma. But that’s not how God works. The enemy is the one who makes bad things happen. God does allow him to, but only if he can turn them around for your good. And I know that it’s so hard in the moment to believe that what you’re going through can be good, but the Bible says that what the enemy intended for evil and for harm, God intends for good. It can take a lot of faith to believe and declare that God is good when you’re going through something tough, but when you do, you’re already defeating the enemy and you don’t give room for the devil to tell you lies about who you are and who God is.
I don’t know why God allows some bad things to happen, but I do know that I can thank God for the MANY MANY things that the devil tried to throw at me and God DIDN’T allow him to. Even if you can’t see the full picture right now, you have to trust that God will turn everything for your good. Even if you prayed and prayed for a situation to turn around and it felt like God didn’t answer your prayer. Even if you prayed for that miracle and it didn’t come. Even if you desperately needed God to come through for you and it felt like he didn’t. What you’re seeing is only one piece of an enormous puzzle – you don’t know why its there or where it fits, but God sees the big picture. TRUST that he has a wonderful plan and purpose for your life, and he will turn everything for good.
& IF NOT, HE IS STILL GOOD.
